Linux

Pair Companion is not available for Linux. The overlay must stay invisible when you share your whole screen, and Linux desktops (X11 and Wayland) offer no way to exclude a window from screen capture, so we cannot guarantee that privacy there. Use the macOS or Windows app.

Installation guide

Install on Windows

Download the installer

Choose Windows — Intel/AMD 64-bit unless you know your computer runs Windows on ARM. The file is named PairCompanion-Windows-Intel-AMD-64-bit-Setup.exe.

Run the Setup file

Double-click the downloaded file. Because the build is not code-signed yet, Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway. If you want to check the file first, compare it with the SHA-256 checksums above.

Follow the wizard

Pick a language, keep the suggested folder (Pair Companion installs for your user only, so no administrator password is needed), optionally add a desktop shortcut, and click Install.

Open Pair Companion

Leave “Launch Pair Companion” checked on the last page, or open it any time from the Start menu. The app runs in the system tray: double-click its icon or use the global shortcut to show the panel, then activate your license or start the free trial.

Update or remove

To update, run the newer Setup file over the existing installation. To remove it, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps and uninstall Pair Companion. Your settings and license stay in your user profile.

Install on macOS

Unzip and move to Applications

Open PairCompanion-macOS.zip and drag Pair Companion into your Applications folder.

Allow the first launch

The app is not notarized yet. Right-click Pair Companion, choose Open, and confirm. If macOS still blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Grant permissions

Approve Screen & System Audio Recording and Microphone access when asked, then reopen the app. Pair Companion lives in the menu bar; activate your license or start the free 30-minute trial from its license screen.

Before installing

Try it free for 30 minutes, then activate a license.

Every download includes a free 30-minute trial that starts from inside the app, no card required. After that you will need an active Pair Companion license.

Also required: Claude Code or Codex installed and signed in on this computer. Pair Companion generates answers through their own login, never through model API keys, so it adds no AI usage cost, but it cannot work without one of those subscriptions.
