AI assistance for technical interviews

Technical interviews move fast.
Keep your reasoning clear.

Pair Companion follows the question, understands the screen, and gives you a natural first sentence while a complete, explainable answer streams in behind it.

For preparation, mock interviews, and interviews where assistance is permitted. Requires your own Claude Code or Codex subscription; Pair Companion adds no AI usage fee.

“I’d start by clarifying the expected scale and consistency requirements, because those decisions shape the storage model and the write path.”

Approach

Confirm constraints, describe the simple design first, then add scaling and failure-handling tradeoffs.

Next

Walk through the data model, API boundaries, bottlenecks, and the signals you would monitor.

A usable answer, sooner

Start speaking naturally while the deeper answer develops.

The fast opening buys you time without sounding like filler. The full response stays visible and is not replaced just because the interviewer speaks again.

Pair Companion identifies the task

It separates coding problems, multiple-choice questionnaires, system-design prompts, and ordinary conversation before choosing a response format.

A short opener arrives first

A faster model produces one grounded sentence you can use immediately instead of waiting silently for the entire answer.

The complete answer streams in

A stronger model develops the approach, tradeoffs, complexity, code, and likely follow-ups while preserving the answer you are reading.

You stay in control

Move between earlier and newer answers, pause automatic suggestions, or ask for a fresh answer using the final conversation context.

Coding challenges

Code you can explain, not just copy.

Pair Companion can use a sequence of screenshots when the whole problem does not fit on one screen, then produce an interview-sized solution in your selected language.

01

Understands the screen

Classifies the content before answering, so a questionnaire gets direct choices and a coding challenge gets an algorithm and implementation.

Screen classification
02

Explains the approach

Starts with a concise way to describe how you will begin, then covers tradeoffs and complexity without pretending every detail is memorized.

Speakable reasoning
03

Comments like a walkthrough

Code comments are written in natural English as if you were guiding the interviewer, including what short variables such as n represent.

Explainable code
System design

Build the answer from requirements to tradeoffs.

Keep scale, consistency, availability, data flow, failure modes, and observability connected to what the interviewer actually asked.

“Before choosing the database, I’d confirm whether the read path can tolerate stale data.”
Behavioral follow-ups

Use your own experience without sounding scripted.

Your profile, résumé, preferred answers, and the current job description help generate grounded stories. STAR is used when it improves a complex answer, not as a rigid template.

“The situation was a schema migration affecting millions of product pages, so my first priority was a safe rollout path.”

Context that survives follow-ups

The next question does not start from zero.

Pair Companion keeps the relevant conversation, the answer you are currently reading, your profile, and the role context separated but available.

  • Preserves the current answer while preparing the next one
  • Uses final conversation context when you request an answer manually
  • Lets you navigate previous and next answers by shortcut
  • Supports Claude Code and Codex through their local login

Technical interview FAQ

Know what to expect before the call.

Does the 7-Day Pass have fewer features?

No. It includes the same product features as Monthly and Annual. Only the access period and renewal model are different.

Does Pair Companion include Claude or ChatGPT?

No. It uses your locally authenticated Claude Code or Codex installation, so you need an active subscription with Anthropic or OpenAI. Pair Companion does not add model API charges.

Can it solve a problem that spans multiple screens?

Yes. Add multiple screenshots as pages, then analyze them together once the complete prompt is captured.

Can I choose the programming language?

Yes. Set the language used for generated code in the app settings.

Can I use it in any interview?

You are responsible for following the interviewer’s instructions, the platform rules, and applicable policies. Pair Companion is also designed for mock interviews, preparation, and take-home challenges.
